Centre for Innovation and Structural Change and BMW Regional Assembly Joint Conference
The renewal of an economic region requires simultaneous "reinvention" of organisational and regional capabilities.
The joint conference of the Centre for Innovation and Structural Change and Border, Midland and Western (BMW) Regional Assembly took place in the National University of Ireland, Galway on the 4th November 2011.
The Conference Opening and Welcome Address was conducted by Dr James Browne, President, NUI Galway and Cllr Cyril Burke, Chairperson, BMW Regional Assembly.
Speakers included Dr. Kieran Moylan, Assistant Director, BMW Regional Assembly "An Audit of the Innovation System in the BMW Region: An Evaluation of a Regional Knowledge Economy"; Professor Terry Smith, Vice-President for Research, NUI Galway "A One-Stop Shop for Research and Innovation in the Medical Technology Industry"; Dr. Patrick Collins, Centre for Innovation and Structural Change, NUI Galway "Dualistic Approaches to Regional Competitiveness in the Smart Economy Era"; Mr. Peter Reilly, Research and Development Director, Valeo Vision Systems "Innovation Driving Growth in the BMW Region".
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Gerhard Fuchs, University of Stuttgart, Germany "Knowledge, Operations and Institutions: The Way Forward for a Regional System of Innovation"
