The Irish Presidency of Atlantic Area Programme in 2011, welcomes  you to the 7th newsletter of the programme. Implementation  progressed well during 2011, forty eight approved projects from the opening two calls continued their good work in delivering positive results across the Atlantic Area in all the strategic priorities .  The Programme Monitoring Committee issued a third call for proposals which closed on April 30th. This was a focussed call which targeted strategic co-operation projects in the maritime innovation economy including the marine renewable energies sector and maritime safety co-operation. The call also targeted Ports co-operation, shipping and intermodal transport linkages.

The Programme Monitoring Committee was convened in Dublin Castle on October 27th and 28th

The EU Strategy for the Atlantic Area was also a key priority for the programme in 2011. The President and Managing Authority attended the launch of the strategy in Lisbon on November 28th 2011. The Member States of the programme are now looking towards the new programming period 2014-2020 and identifying strategic priorities in the context of the strategic framework provided by the EU Commission. We look forward to working with the EU Commission in implementing a plan to progress this strategy.

Our Marine Economy Conference scheduled to take place in Dublin on February 7th 2012 will act as first step in charting a road map for the programme’s priorities.
